Synopsis

How To Get On With Everybody is a portrait of Rabbi Herschel Gluck from London, who has spent decades building bridges between people of all backgrounds. A unique figure within the Haredi community, the documentary closely follows his work with Shomrim, a Jewish neighbourhood watch group that has faced a rise in antisemitic incidents since 7 October 2023. The film also highlights his deep friendship with members of the local Muslim community, revealing a bond that defies stereotypes and expectations. Over 25 years ago, Herschel founded the Muslim-Jewish Forum and was awarded an OBE in 2013 for his contributions to interfaith work. Adopted by a family of Holocaust survivors at just five days old, Herschel’s origins are marked by both uncertainty and resilience. While his birth mother was Jewish, he knows little about his birth father. His personal history is layered and complex, much like the path he has forged over the decades. The film intricately weaves together his family story and professional life, offering a compelling reflection on contemporary Jewish identity and experience.
