Rabbi Gluck's life captured in touching new film
"The Jewish Chronicle"
How To Get On With Everybody
follows the remarkable life of Rabbi Herschel Gluck, from the Haredi Jewish community in London. Herschel dedicates himself to crossing divides and building friendships with people in unlikely places.
Behind his playful manner lies a timely message about our common humanity in a time of global tension.
The documentary explores Herschel Glucks work with Shomrim, a Jewish neighbourhood watch group navigating a surge in antisemitic incidents since 7th
October. We also witness his deep friendship with members of his local Muslim community, showing a bond that defies stereotypes and expectations.
Motivation
We are living through political unrest and growing polarisation, where public discourse is often divisive. This film offers something different: a space for curiosity and connection. We are two directors —neither of us Jewish — who have lived for many years as neighbours to
the strictly Orthodox Jewish community in North London. Through this proximity, we are aware of how narrowly this community is often portrayed in the mainstream culture. This film offers a more humane, nuanced view. At the heart of the film is Rabbi Herschel Gluck—civic-minded, funny, and deeply committed to dialogue with all. In an age of rising Islamophobia and anti-Semitism, it speaks to the importance of empathy and solidarity across all borders.
